Unfortunately, with the current COVID restrictions and lockdown conditions continuing until at least 23 September, in accordance with today’s announcement from the Victorian Government, on advice from the Department of Health, the decision has been made to cancel the remainder of the 2021 Big V season.
While the league's intent was to play finals and grand finals at the start of September, the extended lockdown has removed all available weeks remaining in the schedule to accommodate the return to the season.
An unfortunate ending to a remarkable season, with players, coaches, team staff and administrators having navigated every up and down along the road to put the best possible product on the court each (available) week.
Following the cancellation of the season and no finals series, there will be no 2021 championship winners declared.
With approximately only 70-75% of the home and away season completed, uneven number of games played and unbalanced draws resulting from the cancelled rounds, the league has reviewed and believes it is not the right decision to also have player and statistical award winners for the 2021 season for these reasons.
